Polka TJ Pics
Here you will find pictures of polka dances, me, my family, my friends, and what the hell ever else
I feel like putting pictures up of! Just beware... Sometimes I may become somewhat of an exhibitionist!
FIEDOR'S GROVE- October, 2007. Recently for work, I had to travel to Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. For many of you, that name is synonymous with Fiedor's Grove. For the last several years, the place known affectionately as simply "The Grove" has been closed down. There was always a glimmer or hope in my heart and, while very faded, the glimmer was still there. Until recently. As I drove up Fiedor's
Grove Road, it brought back so many memories. It felt like nothing had changed.
To me, it was a Sunday afternoon and I was on my way to hear whatever band
happened to be playing that Sunday. Normally you just went, without even knowing
who was playing. The only thing that seemed off was not having a cooler in the trunk. So as I drove down memory lane, I got very excited but at the same time worried about what was ahead of me. Would the Grove still even be standing? Would there be any signs of hope? Then I saw the sign. "Welcome to Fiedor's Grove" was engraved in the old wooden sign I had remembered. Beyond that the parking lot, where the grass and brush stood as tall as I was when I first visited there. I pulled up to the front and while I was relieved to see the building still standing, I was devastated at the same time to see what had become of my beloved polka spot. The property had obviously not been cared for, as the grounds were barren with the exception of the weeds and brush. They were flourishing. They were also logging around the entire perimeter of the building, chopping down any and every tree on the grounds. I can only speculate, but I would assume perhaps the next thing to come tumbling down may be my Polka home of so many years. The only bright spot, as you will notice below, are the beer cans that so many of us had so diligently placed into the nails in the porch ceiling so many weeks in a row. Hopefully these few shots will provide some closure for you if you were wondering how our old friend was doing.
